School's Out!

This school year just flew by and I was really sad to see it end. This years group of students were so much fun and so pleasant. They renewed my love of teaching and will always have a special place in my heart.

Now I have 2 teacher days to get my room battened down for the summer and then I will spend the rest of the time getting ready for DC and Ohio and Atrion. Lots going on this summer. It's not really a vacation at all, just a different way of getting through the day. I am really looking forward to a few days of sleeping in. Back to school on August 17th.

29th on the 29th

Curt and I just celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary. It is hard to believe that many years has gone by. They have been busy and mostly good. Here is a picture of the whole family.

I love my family and am so grateful for the knowledge that we are sealed together and have the opportunity to be with each other for time and all eternity. I wouldn't want to spend it with anyone else.

20 Firsts...or 19

I am going to copy Laura, who copied from Ashley. I think I like these things because I can talk about myself. I just realized that about myself.

1. Who was you FIRST dance date? My first dance was the junior prom and I went with Doug Kennedy, who was also my boyfriend.

2. Do you still talk to your FIRST love? Doug (see above)was my first love. He was killed in a hunting accident about 4 years after we graduated from high school.

3. FIRST time you got stitches? When I was in 2nd grade, I was playing on the merry-go-round and slipped. I slammed my chin into one of the poles and cut it open on the bottom. I had to have 4 stitches.

4. What was your FIRST job? Besides babysitting, my first job was working at Pasquales Pizza as cook/dishwasher/clean-up crew. I think I made $2.35 an hour.

5. FIRST car? A 63 Ford Falcon. My friends called it "Funky dude". Part of the floorboard on the passenger side was rusted out, so if the floormat slipped and we drove through a puddle of water (common in Mississippi)the passenger got quite wet. :) Sometimes the brakes would go out and I would have to drive around the house before the car stopped. And the transmission would get stuck in first gear and so I would be going 50mph in first gear. It was an awesome car.

6. Who was the FIRST person to text you today? Like Laura, I don't text. On my plan, texts are extra. I still like email. The first person to email me today was Mike, my friend in Middleton.

7. Who was the FIRST person you thought about this morning? It was probably Curt. He rattles around about 2 hours before any sane person would think about getting out of bed.

8. FIRST grade teacher? Mrs. Sherman, at Kinley AFB in Bermuda. I have blogged about her before. She is the one who made my teeth rattle by shaking me for talking in the playground line.

9. Where did you go on your FIRST sirplane ride? My first airplane ride was taken when I was 9 months old. I was born in France, and my family was returning to the United States because Dad got transfered from France to Shreveport, Louisiana.

10. Who was your FIRST best friend and so you still talk? My first best friends were sisters, Michelle and Laurie Griffin. They lived down the lane from me in Bermuda. We just played so well together. Their Dad got transfered to Boston about the same time my Dad got transfered to Tennessee. We wrote each other for a while and then lost touch. I would sure like to know what is up with them.

11. Where was your FIRST sleepover? At Mickie and Laurie's house. Michelle's nickname was Mickie.

12. Who was the FIRST person you talked to this morning? Since Jake didn't have school today, I didn't see him before I left for work. I did talk to the cat quite a bit, but the first person I talked to was Nikki Williamson when I walked into the building.

13. Whose wedding were you in for the FIRST time? My own.

14. What was the FIRST thing you did this morning? Took a shower.

15. What was the FIRST concert you ever went to? July 8, 1972 - The Osmond Brothers - Houston, Texas. Totally awesome.

16. FIRST trip to the hospital? When I was 3, I had my tonsils taken out.

17. FIRST piercing? When I was 13 yrs old, my best friend's mother pierced my ears.

18. FIRST foreign country you have ever been to? That would be the one I was born in, France.

19. When was your FIRST dentention? My first detention was after I became a teacher and I kept a student for detention. That was 1994.

20. What was your FIRST toy? Jake suggested this question as the 20th question. The first toy I can remember was when I was 3 yrs old. I got a Chatty Cathy doll, either for my birthday or Christmas. It was one of the first dolls to have that string that you pulled and it would talk. I loved that doll.

An update and Spring Break

Yes, it has been a while since I have posted. Many things have happened since then. A recap - Laura had an emergency appendectomy, so I went for a week to Mississippi to help them while she was in the hospital and recovering. It was nice to see where she lived and to be of some help with Carter while Josh took care of Laura. That was the first full week of February. Then there was Valentine's day, and my sweet husband sent me flowers and the nicest card that was ever written. Then there was my birthday and turning 51. I managed to be sick again, like I was last year. But it was nice to have my family around and visit with them. Next was Atrion's ultrasound, where is was wonderful to see him kicking and poking and proudly displaying his gender. Not a doubt that this baby is a boy. Then we had Nate's birthday (28) and Halle's birthday (4) and Jake's first high school track meet and then we had Spring Break.

Wow, so many things I could have blogged about but didn't. :(

So, Spring Break...Casey and Cody came to Twin Falls on Wednesday and we all looked after Halle because her Mom and Dad went to Las Vegas for a mini-break. We played and watched movies. She went to Jake's track meet on Thursday, which was chilly. Jake threw a personal best and so is off to a good start. Then, Cody took Halle back to Pocatello and dropped her off with Maddie (Meg's sister) and Casey, Jake, Curt and I went to Layton and spent the night. We got up the morning of Friday, the 13th, and headed to the SLC airport. Casey was catching a later flight and had to wait until 4 hours before her flight time before she could check her bag, so we left her at 10:30 to go through security and get to our flight. Poor Casey, had to wait around the airport for an eternity. We flew from SLC to Dallas and from Dallas to Nashville. We picked up our rental car and found the hotel after many, many off course, turn arounds and finding our way back in a new city. We did OK without GPS and some choice swear words. We checked in and got something to eat and then waited around until it was time to pick up Casey. Then we came back to the hotel and crashed. The next morning we drove to Hernando. It took about 3 hours. We stopped a few times to stretch and get something to eat. It was nice to finaly get to Laura's and out of the car. Laura and Curt went and got crawfish and potatoes and corn. Yum! the crawfish were cooked just right. There just was not enough of them. :(( This is a picture of Curt and Carter celebrating the Crawfish. This is one of Jake.

I think later on that evening, everyone was hungry again, so the guys went and got Popeye's chicken. Sunday and Monday we rested and visited and then Tuesday we went out to Tunica to see the river and go shopping at the outlet malls. We got some really good deals on baby clothes. Here is a picture of us sitting on the veranda of the River Museum in rocking chairs.

We headed to Memphis and Beale St. to find some world famous bbq. The place we chose is called Pig on Beale and they are the grand champion bbqrs. And they don't lie, because even though I am not a great fan of bbq, the food was really, really good. Here is a few pics of the place and the food. Get the ribs. :))

On Thursday, we went by Graceland and said hello to the King. We didn't do the tour because although we like Elvis, we are not huge fans. We headed to the zoo to meet up with Laura, Josh, Carter and Casey. The zoo was fun. Curt and I took the trolley ride around the park and so sometimes we were with the crowd and sometimes we weren't. Here are some pics from the day.

We were pretty worn out after the zoo so we went to another bbq place, but no one ordered bbq. We had catfish - yum.

Friday, Curt, Jake and I headed back to Nashville and then caught our plane early Saturday morning and made it home around 6pm. It is always nice to be home. We came home to find that our furnace wasn't working and had to pay a weekend rate to change a relay switch. :( but, we are warm :). I love my family. Nate, Meg and Halle came over to see us after we got home. Halle had received lots of new shirts via Aunt Laura and me and the good deals at the outlet shops. Halle put on a little modeling show and tried on all of her new clothes. We had pizza and played scene it and visited on skype with Laura and it was nice. I will be glad when we don't have to travel so far to be together.

Tomorrow...back to work. And I am grateful that I have a job.
